Roller Blinds

A fabric panel on an aluminium tube, made to measure for every window on the strip — the volume product for Sea Point, Green Point and Mouille Point's apartment glazing, and the practical answer everywhere else too.

Blockout roller blind lowered flat over a wide window in a Green Point apartment bedroom, marina and city lights beyond
Blockout for the bedroom, sunscreen for the rest of the apartment.
01

Blockout or sunscreen — the real buying decision

Blockout fabric stops light completely, which matters on this coastline specifically at the hour the sun sets straight into the room — a west-facing bedroom needs genuine dark, not a compromise. Sunscreen fabric, typically 3% or 5% openness, cuts glare and UV while keeping the ocean view — the standard choice for living rooms and any window where the outlook is the whole point of the address.

02

The double roller for a room with a view

Bedrooms with a sea view are the classic Seaboard tension: full blockout for sleep, but nobody wants to lose the window entirely during the day. A double roller — blockout and sunscreen on one bracket — answers both without a second set of brackets or a fabric compromise.

03

Built for the promenade-facing glass

Cassette or pelmet valances hide the tube for a clean line against a glass-box or Art Deco frame alike, and the fascia colour-matches your window frames. Single blinds run to roughly 3m of fabric width; wider spans get a central join or motorised linked blinds rather than one overstressed roll.

  • Blockout, sunscreen (3%, 5%, 10% openness) or light-filtering fabric
  • Double roller (blockout + sunscreen) for view-preserving bedrooms
  • Chain, spring or motorised control; cassette/pelmet valances to hide the tube
04

What a roller blind costs on the Seaboard

Per square metre installed, a chain or spring roller is guided at R1,000 to R1,600 — plain blockout low in that, a 3% sunscreen or a two-fabric double roller high in it. Swap the chain for a tube motor and the guide becomes R2,500 to R3,800, control and commissioning counted in. These are bands, not a quotation.

Two things skew that on apartment glazing. A bathroom pane eats nearly the same brackets, tube and labour as a lounge span, so anything tiny is billed at a minimum instead of by area. Cassettes, pelmets and side channels are listed separately. Your own figure gets written down after the free measure.

One honest limit

Very wide unbroken spans need a join line or motorised linked blinds — a single roller has a real width ceiling before the fabric or tube starts to sag. We'll tell you plainly where that line sits for your window.
