Roller Shutters

Interlocking aluminium slats that roll down from a headbox outside the glass — the most complete sun, heat and glare control we offer, and a genuine blackout option. A shading product, sold and specified as one.

Aluminium roller shutter partially lowered on a Mouille Point townhouse exterior over sliding glass doors, for afternoon sun and glare control
Lowered against the worst of the afternoon sun, not against anyone.
01

Sun, heat and total blackout, in one motorised system

Foam-filled aluminium slats roll down in guided side channels to fully cover the glass — the most complete response we have to a west-facing wall in midsummer, when even a sunscreen roller and an external venetian together still let some heat and light through. Closed, the room goes properly dark; open, the shutter isn't visible against the facade at all.

That's the whole pitch: sun, heat, glare and blackout. Not the pitch below.

02

What these are not

Shading, not security. Our roller shutters are a shading product, not a security-rated one. They're not marketed, specified or fitted here as a burglar-resistant system, and we won't imply otherwise — a genuine security shutter is a different, purpose-built product, which we can quote as a separate item on request if that's actually what you need.

03

Colour-matched to concrete, timber and render

Boxes surface-mount or build in — new construction can conceal the headbox completely — and powder-coated finishes are matched to the facade materials common on this strip: raw concrete, timber cladding or painted render. Motorised as standard, with manual override and the same wind-sensor logic as our other exterior products on exposed elevations.

  • Foam-filled aluminium slats, powder-coated to match concrete, timber or render facades
  • Motorised as standard, manual override, wind-sensor auto-retract on exposed elevations
  • Genuine blackout — the shading product to reach for on the hottest west-facing glass

What a roller shutter costs here

These sit at the top of the range and it is fair to say so plainly. By the square metre installed, as a guide: a hand-operated shutter runs R3,500 to R5,500, and a motorised one R5,000 to R7,000. Where you land inside that depends mostly on the slat and the headbox, and on how the box has to be detailed into the building.

Narrow openings attract a minimum — the box, the side guides and the installation crew do not scale down with the glass. Power for a wired motor is separate and belongs to the electrician. And because a shutter is fixed on the outside of the building, a scheme or body corporate may want sight of it first, which is a conversation worth having before the quote is accepted. That quote follows the free measure and lists every opening on its own line.

What we don't sell

A security-rated shutter is a different, purpose-built product with its own certification and fitting requirements. If that's what you're after, tell us and we'll quote it separately and honestly — we won't sell you a shading shutter and call it something it isn't.
