Atlantic Seaboard
About Atlantic Seaboard Blinds: One Coastline, One Set of Physics
Atlantic Seaboard Blinds is a measure-quote-and-fit service for made-to-measure window shading along one stretch of Cape Town coast. The suburb name on the title deed changes from Mouille Point to Llandudno; the sunset, the wind and the salt in the air do not, and everything we fit is specified for all three.
Built to face the sunset, and to survive one
Every window on this strip was built for the same evening: a west or north-west aspect that puts the low afternoon sun straight into the main glass, worst in midsummer when the sun finally sets well south of due west with nothing between it and the water. We do not keep a catalogue of stock sizes. External venetian blinds, zip screens, roller shutters, roller blinds, day and night blinds, aluminium and timber venetians, vertical and panel blinds, cellular blinds, concealed and skylight blinds, folding-arm awnings and motorised control are each manufactured to the dimensions of the opening they are going onto.
The external products are the premium tier of the range for a physical reason. An interior blind manages heat that has already crossed the glass; an external venetian, a roller shutter or a zip screen intercepts it before the pane warms at all, which on a Fresnaye-class glass box is the difference between an aircon that copes and one that is losing. Every exterior product carries a wind rating for its own position and powder-coated, salt-air-rated hardware, and child-safe operation with no dangling cords is standard across the range.
Where we measure and fit
The full run of the Atlantic Seaboard: Mouille Point, Green Point, Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Fresnaye, Clifton, Camps Bay and Llandudno. Four area pages go deeper on the paired stretches with the most different stories. The harbour edge at Mouille Point and Green Point, where sectional-title blocks catch glare off the harbour in the morning and the sea in the afternoon. The promenade climbing into the cliffs at Sea Point and Bantry Bay, where street-level privacy gives way to elevation-driven wind exposure and some Art Deco facades fall under heritage protection. The hillside coves of Fresnaye and Clifton, with architect-led frameless glazing under the strongest funnel of the Cape Doctor. And Camps Bay and Llandudno, where sunset-watching is the brief and many homes run on a part-time holiday clock.
The rest of the strip is covered on the same visit with the same specification logic, because the suburb name on the title deed changes but the sun, the wind and the salt in the air do not. The one thing that does change is the local wind: it is measured at your corner, not read off the postcode, and a sheltered courtyard and an exposed roof terrace on the same stand are treated as two different jobs. Somewhere else nearby on the peninsula's west-facing side? Mention it in the form or the chat and we will confirm whether the same specification logic covers you.
How a job runs, from enquiry to fitted
The process is the same whether it is one sliding door in a Sea Point apartment or a full glass frontage in Clifton. You tell us about your windows, the building type and what is actually bothering you, whether glare, wind or a body-corporate rule, through the form or the chat. One of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to book a free in-home measure. On that visit every opening is measured to the millimetre, and fabric, openness, wind rating and control are decided window by window against the aspect and exposure of your particular address, with samples in hand.
A written quote follows, itemised per window or opening, with no pressure to decide on the spot. Pricing is confirmed in that document after the measure, never guessed down the phone, and lead times are confirmed there too. Once you approve it, the order is manufactured to those dimensions and installed cleanly by hand, with the operation demonstrated, motorised or manual, before the team leaves. Measure appointments across the seaboard get booked ahead, especially in summer, so the earlier you are in the diary the more choice of day and time you have.
What we do not do or claim
We do not price from a description or a photograph. We do not describe our roller shutters as security: they are a shading product for sun, heat, glare and blackout on the outside of the glass, and they carry no security rating. A genuine security-rated product is something different, which we can quote as a separate item only if that is what you actually need. We do not call marine-grade hardware maintenance-free, because on this coast it is not. And we do not describe a body-corporate or heritage approval as a formality, or submit one on your behalf; we supply the specification sheet and leave the decision with your trustees, your managing agent or the City.
We also do not pretend to know your wind, your height above the water or what is behind your plaster from a street-view image. Height decides what blocks your low sun, how much light bounces up off the water and how much wind you actually get; the substrate decides the bracket and whether an exterior system is viable on that wall at all. Those are settled standing in the room with a consultant, which is why the measure is free rather than a formality, and why nothing on this site is priced off a page.
Honest about the limits
Some things take longer than people hope. Concealed ceiling-slot systems need real lead time at the design stage, and retrofitting one into a finished ceiling is possible but never as clean as planning it from the drawings. A heritage-listed facade can add weeks of approval before a single exterior bracket goes in, though interior blinds proceed immediately. A single roller has a genuine width ceiling before the fabric or tube sags, so very wide spans need a join line or linked motorised blinds, and wide zip screens need real wall clearance for the stack. A scheduled system for a holiday home is only as good as its setup. We would rather say each of these at the measure than after the quote.
Getting in touch
The enquiry form and the on-page chat are the two ways to reach us, and both are on every page. There is no call-centre hold music; a real consultant calls you back to arrange a time that suits your building, apartment or house. The free guide, Where the Sun Goes All the Way Down, stays free and asks for nothing, so if you would rather read first, start there and bring the awkward window, the gable or the stairwell nobody else would quote, when you are ready. Enquiry details are processed under POPIA and used only for the consultation call-back and the quote; they are never shared or sold.
